DIY Art-pop Act based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire

About Us

The Tidy Wives is the project of Karen Logan Smith, former bassist and computer noise maker from The High Club who decided to pick up a guitar and work long into the night creating strange sounds, punky messy electric guitar, rumbling basslines and electronic beats. The Tidy Wives unseen member is extraordinary songwriter Mark Ruston of The High Club, with original songs from Mark and from Karen, The Tidy Wives create melodic art-pop-rock with an edge. The live band is Loz Campbell lead guitar, Heather Woodstock on vocals and multi instruments, James Brown on drums, Andrew Smith on bass, Karen Logan Smith on guitar, vocals and electronics. Influences: Buzzcocks, Cate Le Bon, Deerhoof, Wedding Present, The Pastels, Of Montreal, Brian Jonestown Massacre and Mike Samms

Before their split in 2015, Karen was bass and electronics player and sang with The High Club, with supporting slots with The Wave Pictures, Stanley Brinks and Freschard, Mi Mye, and played at Wakefield's Long DIvision Festival and Leeds Brudenell Club. In 2015 she recorded backing vocals with Darren Hayman on his album 'Chants for Socialists' working with producer and Death in Vegas member Ian Button, as well as providing backing vocals for Mark Slawinski and the Fulbrights on their album 'A Glimpse of Sweetness', and sang live at the Postwar Glamour Girls live album recording as part of Wakefield's Long Division festival in 2016.
